#SoCaltech: Skyler Ware
“We’ve seen, especially over the last few years, just how important it is that the public understands the process of science. I’m in a very privileged place where I have the opportunity to get an amazing education and learn all I can about science. I want to be a bridge and a resource for those who haven’t had that opportunity. I also want to be part of that conversation because science doesn’t just belong to scientists—there are other people who have a stake in the game. So, I want to seek out other perspectives, and then I want to bring those back to science too.”
Skyler Ware, a chemistry graduate student in the lab of Kimberly See, was a 2023 American Association for the Advancement of Science Mass Media Fellow with Science News. In addition to research, writing, and running science-themed Dungeons and Dragons games, Ware has been involved in Caltech’s theater and science storytelling programs. In November, Ware co-starred in Another Revolution, a two-person play that performed on campus and at the science theater festival Teatro della Meraviglia (Theater of Wonder) in Trento, Italy. After completing her PhD this year, Ware plans to pursue a full-time career in science communication.
